Thai Olympic Hero Somluck Khamsing travels to London for Muaythai Gala

A massive muaythai gala under the World Muaythai Council is being organized in London and will be televised around the world. The event is being held not only to promote and foster the relationship between Thailand and England but also to promote muaythai even further to a global stage. Somluck will be taking on England champion Keiren Keddle. This bout is sure to set the house on fire. Another Thai legend Diesellek Rungruangyon will go head to head with England champion and former WMC World Champion Steve Wakeling.
Also on the card is Contender Asia superstar David Pacquette Vs Kaoponglek and to promote female muaythai will be the European challenge between the English and the Dutch champions. Muaythai in England at the moment is experiencing a huge boost in popularity through the Contender Asia Muaythai series as it is aired prime time on the popular channel ITV4.
The World Muaythai Council states that there is no need to put up belts to promote big events. It is the names, the quality of fighters and a solid promotion that counts. Stephan Fox, Vice president of the WMC and Contender Asia host states “Sadly in Thailand, muaythai is based on gambling, but outside, it is based on the appeal of the sport itself. Stadiums around the world are filled to bursting point with spectators coming to enjoy the excitement of the sport and the skill of the fighters. If muaythai ever wants to go to the Olympic games, this is the kind of foundation we must build on”.
