Malaysia Makes History

2008 with no doubt was the most successful year in the history of muaythai in Malaysia. For the first time, the Malaysian national team participated in the TAFISA World Sport for All Games under patronage of the IOC and proved to the world that they definitely can go toe to toe with the powerhouses of muaythai.

Another benchmark for Malaysia was the inclusion of its fighters in the King’s Cup event held in honour of His Majesty the King of Thailand’s birthday. The event was televised was televised in over 160 countries and over 200,000 spectators witnessed the 2 selected Malaysian fighters making Malaysia proud. Bernard Radin with the performance of a lifetime defeated the boxer from Germany, which earned him a spot in Contender Asia season 2.
Mohd Ali Yaakub fought the fight of his life in front of over 200,000 Thais beating Thailand on their own turf. Malaysia won the hearts of the audience and the fans in all five continents that watched the event on live television.
