The WMC officially launched the "MUAYTHAI against Drugs" at a well-attended press conference held at the Emerald Hotel, Bangkok,
In total 7 TV news stations and the main national papers covered the conference which was attended by many dignitaries from the sporting and political world.
Muaythai has played an important part in the cultures and history of Thailand for hundreds of years. Back in the days when Thailand was known as Siam, Muaythai was already practiced amongst all - from kings to commoners.

On Saturday 13th of February, Polish lovers of muaythai were treated to a massive all-day event organised by the Warrior Lodz Club, a member of the Polish Muaythai Federation

A packed stadium, a great muaythai crowd and exciting international fights highlight a successful premiere for TCC Thailand event in Pattaya sanctioned by the WMC
Rome, one of the most beautiful cities in the world will be the venue. The championships will be held from the 25th-30th of May and will be organised by FIMT, EMF and IFMA.
Siam Paragon, Thailand’s premier lifestyle shopping complex will see a world class premier event, organised by Elite Boxing in cooperation with One Songchai Promotions, under the sanctioning of the World Muaythai Council.
The growing popularity and success of muaythai was celebrated on a Friendship Gala Cruise, which had been organised by the World Muaythai Council and the International Federation of Muaythai Amateur.
The 2009 IFMA World Championships was a great success as over 200,000 spectators attended the closing of the 2009 IFMA World Championships,
also known as The King‘s Cup, held in honour of His Majesty the King of Thailand‘s 82nd birthday.
Representitives from 96 countries participated in this year‘s IFMA Annual General Meeting which was held at the Grand Ayudhya Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand.

The 10th of October will see a fantastic event blending both amateur and professional muaythai bouts in the beautiful city of Torino, host city of the 2006 Winter Olympics.
3rd of October will see a Professional Muay Thai Gala in Pozoblanco Córdoba.
The event is organised by Club Hanuman and promoter Francisco Villalba Miraime, with the collaboration of the Department of Sports of Pozoblanco and Club Zeus.

Sydney will host another world class international WMC sanctioned event from Taipan promotions. Unleashed will take place Saturday, August 22nd at the Portuguese Community Club in NSW.
WMC and OneSongchai presented their annual Queen's Cup competition in Honour of Her Majesty the Queen of Thailand's 77th birthday on August 12th at Sanam Luang in Bangkok. The crowds turned up in record numbers, as over 100,000 spectators attended the event.
The Muaythai Association of Israel held a unique cultural event in which a team of Thai fighters were invited to partake in a Thai-Israeli Friendly Muaythai Match in Honour of Her Majesty the Queen of Thailand’s Birthday. The event received the full support of the Thai Embassy in Israel.

18/05/09 - Malaysia the Surprise Team at Arafura Games
Malaysia hasn’t been known as a powerhouse in the sport of Muaythai but this changed at this year’s Arafura Games. The Malaysian National team was the surprise package of the competition surprising spectators with outstanding results and sportsmanship. The team won two gold medals, one silver, two Bronze and earned an award for being the most improved muaythai team.
Team New Zealand lacked mother luck on their side for the Arafura Games. New Zealand is normally one of Oceania’s powerhouses in Muaythai. The team had four fighters make it to the finals but had to settle for silver medals in the end.
Iran without a doubt is a world power house in the sport of Muaythai. The Iranian teams were in outstanding form at the Arafura Games. They took home three gold medals and two silver medals on the final day against strong opposition from Australia, New Zealand, and Thailand.
Hong Kong is one of the most active countries for the sport of Muaythai in Asia as they host monthly events. The Hong Kong team took home a Silver and Bronze medal at the Arafura Aames. This is another milestone for the ever-active Hong Kong Federation and no doubt they will be ready for the upcoming Indoor Asian games.
The inclusion of Muaythai in the Arafura games proved to be a hit with spectators and media alike in the Northern Territory. The Spectrum Stadium was the heart of Arafura activities and was packed from opening to closing day. Muaythai had one of the largest spectator crowds during the games and the athletes returned with outstanding performances. Muaythai also received a huge Media coverage with full page articles in several newspapers as well as TV Coverage.
The Australian team was the life of the party at the Arafura games with a huge delegation competing. Australia can be rightfully proud of its team for winning 3 gold medals, Best Female Boxer and Best Junior Boxer. The team should also be proud of a fantastic completion staged in their own back yard which only can be described as a huge success.
Thailand’s Muaythai team thrilled the audience with outstanding muaythai skill. The Thai team won three gold medals and the Boxer Award was presented to World Champion Panupun. The team had tremendous support from Thai local spectators with their enthusiasm and “oey, oey” chants. The stadium was alive with cheers and excitement from audience and fighters alike.
The Challenger is set to be the most significant fight event ever hosted in Macau, with many of the worlds GREATEST Muaythai fighters taking to the ring, in a night of explosive energy, extreme talent and entertainment.
