Bruce Macfie: Pride of Australia

Bruce Macfie is known as a muaythai legend in Australia with a professional career spanning across 13 years. Beginning training in 1995 at the Street Heat Muaythai Gym in Noosa, Australia Bruce quickly adopted the name “the Preacher’ due to his strong religious faith.

During Macfies career he was a regular on Fox Sports TV shows including Xplosion and Evolution fighting many legendary fighters such as John Wayne Parr, Yodsaenklai Fairtex, Saiyok Pumpanmuang, Soren Monkongtong, Daniel Dawson, Lamsongkram Chuwattana and Warren Elson to name a few.

Bruce, a 3 time WMC intercontinental champion as well as a world champion took part in the emmy nominated reality TV show the Contender in 2007 which pitted 16 muaythai fighters against each other across 12 episodes to determine a winner. Although Bruce did not win the competition losing honourably to Thai superstar Yodsaenklai he built up a huge international fanbase becoming an overnight sensation.

Retiring in 2012, Bruce’s services to the sport will long be remembered as one of the most exciting fighters of his era not only in Australia but worldwide.
