Caley Reece, undisputed Female Muaythai Champion, says goodbye to the ring
Epic Fight Promotions put on a fantastic 12 bout card which will go down in the history of Australian Muaythai and the city of Perth.
The night’s main event was the retirement fight of one of the world’s great female fighters, Caley Reece. She retires holding two WMC World Titles, and as one of the most outstanding ambassadors for female Muaythai in IFMA’s history.
Caley’s final fight was a WMC World title fight, her defence of the 57kg, and also the 50th fight in her career! Defending her 57kg title against a top ranked contender from Germany, Meryem Uslu, Caley’s entrance nearly brought the house down. Wanting to leave her mark on Women’s Muaythai history for good, Caley’s intensity and focus had her in great shape. The German fighter, despite her energy, could not find an answer to Caley’s strength and power, nor the enthusiastic home crowd. After 5 rounds of superb Muaythai, Caley won by unanimous decision, showing that she is still the best in the world. Credit is due to Meryem Uslu for putting up a fantastic fight against a real powerhouse.
After the fight, Caley told her massed fans that she is looking forward to a new path in life, considering motherhood. However, she will always remain part of the Muaythai family.
WMC Vice President Stephan Fox thanked Caley for her outstanding sportsmanship and said that she will always be remembered as one of the Muaythai world’s greatest fighters. He also said that he is looking forward to meeting Caley’s future child, as he or she is sure to be an outstanding fighter for the next generation.
Kim “Kool As” Olsen shaped up against Edwin Samy, the no. 1 ranked fighter from New Zealand. He put on a classy display using long jabs, left kicks and step up knees to keep Edwin at range and always under pressure. Edwin often looked to threaten with some dangerous punches, especially body shots and constantly threw leg kicks. In the end it was Olsen’s use of his reach and constant pressure that saw him get the win and his hopes to represent Australia at the 2013 SportAccord World Combat Games.
Ruan DuPlessis of Riddlers Gym continued his winning form with another devastating win making short work of Dimitri Simoukov from New Zealand. He also hopes to qualify for the World Combat Games, and with his current form, his chances are good.
Chad Walker won his comeback fight to Muaythai after an 18 month layoff from knee surgery. He showed few signs of ring rust in a methodical display against New South Wales’ promising young gun, Josh Primmer, who is one of Australia’s future hopefuls.
It was a great promotion for Muaythai, and special thanks must go to Epic Fight Promotions and Darren Reece for this Muaythai extravaganza.
