Caley Reece: The First ever Female WMC champion in 2 Divisions

Caley Reece is one of Australia’s most decorated athletes and one of the WMC’s most successful fighters picking up many titles and having defeated many notable opponents including Chommanee Sor Taehiran, Tiffany Van Soest and Jessica Gladstone to name a few.

Caley’s WMC journey began at 25 years old following a lengthy winning streak where she went on to win the WMC Western Australia State and Australian National Featherweight titles.

After conquering Australia it was then time to head to Thailand to fight on the prestigious King’s Birthday event in Bangkok on the 5th December, 2009 where she beat Spaniard Jessica Sanchez on points to take home the WMC Intercontinental Featherweight Title. The year after she then successfully defended the belt by way of unanimous decision against challenger Jessica Gladstone from Canada.

In 2011 it was time to fight for the WMC Featherweight World Title against Swede Madeleine Vall again winning by unanimous decision.

Caley became the first woman to win two WMC titles in two different weight divisions in 2012 when she beat Anna Willberg from Finland for the WMC World Junior Lightweight title.

Also in 2012, Reece successfully defended her WMC World Featherweight Title when she beat Meryem Uslu by unanimous decision at Epic 7

Reece was scheduled to defend her WMC World Featherweight title against Sawsing Sor Sopit in 2015 but due to complications had to be replaced by Chommanee last minute. Reece defeated Chomanee by decision to retain the title then took to Facebook to announce her retirement just days later.

The WMC pays homage to Caley not just as an amazing fighter but as an inspiration to many female athletes proving that determination leads to success.
