Federación Mexicana de Muaythai Celebrates IOC Recognition
The Federación Mexicana de Muaythai is one of the leading federations in the PanAm regions and has celebrated the IOC recognition in a unique way. Athletes from all over the country came together in a 1-week National Training Camp and Tryout to celebrate and train together. The President of FEMEM Oscar Perez, stated that the IOC recognition is a major boost for Mexico. Muaythai is already recognized in Mexico but now with the IOC recognition athletes funding will be the next discussion with the Ministry of Sport and the National Olympic Committee.
From July 26th-August 1st the best of Mexican Muaythai met at this training Camp, the warm climate of the state of Morelos, its gastronomy and first-rate sports facilities made this the best sports experience of the year. More than 50 athletes gathered together for the first time since the pandemic assaulted the world.
The Training Camp had double training sessions, divided into modeling sessions in real competitive situations, detection and correction of errors, workshops with specialists from the medical, psychological, methodological areas and other physical and recreational sessions included in this event.
Sparring sessions were performed to evaluate the real level of each athlete in preparation for the 2021 National Championship. At the end of the camp, participants were able to identify and perfect their technical-tactical combinations that adapt to their fighting style. They also were able to design a strategic plan to face various rivals.
Head Coach, Mauricio Calvo, stated that Mexico is in preparations for the upcoming IFMA World Championships and Mexico is hoping to book spots at the 2022 World Games in Birmingham, Alabama.
