Prince’s Cup 2012: There can be only one
The official draw took place at Bangkok City Hall, in the presence of the President of the WMC General Chetta Thanajaro, and Dr. Sakchye Tapsuwan, President of IFMA and AMTAT, under royal patronage. The draw has now decided who will fight whom in the semi-final of Prince’s Cup 2012. The fighters in the draw were the following:
– Representing Thailand, the current WMC World Champion who has won against the best fighters in the world, Aekpracha. The hopes of the whole kingdom now hang upon him.
– Mostafa “Persian Mos” Abdollahi, one of the viewer’s favourites in the highly successful television show “Challenger Muaythai”, where he lost in the semi-final in a spectacular showdown with Jordan Watson…can he get his revenge?
– Jordan Watson, England’s lion and the runner-up of “Challenger Muaythai” and runner-up for His Majesty King Bhumibol’s trophy.
– Thiago Teixiera of Brazil, winner of the last Queen’s Cup, who knocked out Thai superstar Nonsai in spectacular fashion, earning his spot at the top.
The draw was conducted by the Deputy Governor of Bangkok Mrs. Taya Teepsuwan, who is also big fan of Muaythai, practising it herself. The draw was witnessed by WMC Vice President and IFMA General Secretary, Stephan Fox, under the eyes of the Thai and international press in a packed auditorium.
In a good omen for Thailand, Aekpracha was drawn first for the opening fight. The second name drawn was Jordan Watson. So the Super 4 semi-final will open with the fight which many hoped would be the final. That leaves the second fight: Thiago was drawn first vs. Persian Mos, and it will be a fight of the hard hitters.
Expect the undercard to be star-picked as well, the main featured fight will be Thai champion Wanpadet Meenayothin vs. Australian champion Michael “Mikeys” Thompson.
Prince Cup 2012 with no doubt will be a fantastic event in honour of the 60th birthday of HRH Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn. As always, the vision of WMC and IFMA is not only to promote Muaythai as a competition sport, but also as part of a healthy lifestyle, a true way of life. This is why the event will be staged over three days, with over ten thousand children from all parts of Thailand participating, not to compete in the ring, but to show the beauty and skill of Muaythai as a cultural art form.
