Two Intercontinental Champions are Crowned!
Saturday the 16th of June on the idyllic French island of Le Reunion in the Indian Ocean was host to a muaythai gala featuring international athletes. The event which was sanctioned by the WMC flew in athletes from Spain and Thailand to take on their best competitors. The event had a solid undercard as well as 2 main events for WMC Intercontinental titles.
The first fight saw Kengjak Naruphai from Thailand go head to head with Giovanni Boyer from Le Reunion in the 66.67kg/147 pound division (Welterweight). After 5 close rounds it was the local boy Giovanni who went home victorious much to the delight of the local entourage of fans he brought with him.
The second title fight saw Dabmoon Sia Chot Bangsaen from Thailand go head to head with Samuel Andoch from Le Reunion Island in the 76,20Kgs/168 Pound division (Super Middleweight). This was crowned fight of the evening and after 5 amazing rounds it was Dabmoon from the motherland of the sport who took the belt back to Thailand.
The President of WMC France Pascal stated that Muaythai is very popular on the island and although the population is under 1 million inhabitants the fact that muaythai events at the international level can thrive there is testament to that. Le Reunion has some great athletes and mainland France continues to support the development of the sport on this beautiful island.
