VOTE for Sofia OIofsson as 2016 IWGA Athlete of the Year!!
Voting has opened to select IWGA’s 2016 Athlete of the Year. IFMA is counting on all stakeholders and members to cast their votes EVERY DAY to ensure that MUAYTHAI champion Sofia Olofsson gets the victory and honour for MUAYTHAI!!
Great news! Our WMC and IFMA world muaythai champion and most outstanding female athlete of the Royal World Cup 2015, Sofia Olofsson, is one of the nominated candidates for the 2016 Athlete of the Year by the International World Games Association (IWGA). This is a great honour for Sofia and IFMA, especially as this is the third year in a row that an IFMA athlete has been nominated for this award.
Muaythai is making its debut in the 2017 World Games, so let’s show our strength and support for our athletes and start this year with a bang. It’s all hands on deck and we need everybody’s help to make sure that muaythai is the winner!
The first round of voting will close on 15 January and determine the top ten finalists. The final round starts on 16 January and last until 31 January 2017. The winner will be announced on 1 February 2017. A trophy will be awarded in cooperation with the winner’s federation.
In 2016 Sofia Olofsson won 4 titles, 3 of them at an international level, IFMA World championship, WMC European title, and the WMC World champion title.
Sofia started competing in sports at an early age. She first started playing handball which is team based. At 16 she was already playing with full grown women in the city team. But she didn’t like relying on other players not training as hard as she did so she quit handball.
Then she found muaythai, where you can only rely on yourself for the most part when competing. She liked the idea that you train as a team but when you’re in the ring it is you against your opponent, and believes “If you haven’t trained hard enough you have no one to blame but yourself.”
