Artem Vakhitov: WMC and IFMA Champion
For those of you who have been following the sport of muaythai for the last 12 years or longer it is more than likely that you have stumbled across the name Artem Vakhitov, the Russian muaythai fighter who dominates both the cruiserweight and heavy weight divisions.
Vakhitov began training at 11 years old, breaking onto the scene in 2009 before becoming five-time Russian champion. He then went on to win four IFMA European gold medals and three World Championship gold medals.
In 2010 Vakhitov entered the World Combat Games losing in the final to Canadian superstar Simon Marcus in what was a very controversial split decision. He then went onto win gold in 2013 beating Emidio Barone from Italy in the final.
In 2009 Vakhitov turned professional and got his lucky break in 2011 to fight Vando Cabral from Portugal for the WMC European title. Vakhitov emerged victorious with an early stoppage due to a perfectly timed elbow in round 3. In 2014 it was time to compete for the WMC world title against Belarusian superstar Dzianis Hancharonak with Vakhitov once again emerging the victor.
In 2016 Vakhitov signed a contract with Glory and continues to dominate the division as the current heavyweight champion.
Vakhitov is a WMC and IFMA superstar and has etched his name into the hall of fame as one of all the all time greats in both amateur and Professional. Artem Vakhitov, the WMC salutes you!
