Muaythai Gyms in Thailand Reopen Today
Celebrations are definitely in order for muaythai practitioners in Thailand as the government have announced that muaythai camps and gyms can open from today onwards.
For many people who consider muaythai to be their way of life, the closing of the gyms at the beginning of March came as a real blow.
The Thai government has stated that gyms that reopen must follow strict regulations including temperature tests, proper checking in and out of customers with rigorous cleaning and sanitation measures to be implemented. At this point gym goers are only permitted to do bag work and shadow boxing but it is expected that pad work and sparring will resume from the 15th June if there is not a new spike in Covid cases.
Many gyms across the country took to social media yesterday to showcase that they would be open under a ‘new normal’ approach to the usual gym experience but today definitely comes as a small victory for muaythai.
