Condolences for the loss of Don Porter, WBSC President

With sadness we have heard the news on the passing of Don Porter. We would like to send our deepest condolences to his wife Jean and the Porter family.

We all know Don was a man of sport, serving as the president of the International Softball Federation for 26 years and his vision and his dedication Softball becoming an Olympic sport for the first time in 1996. He played an instrumental part in the merger of ISF and IBAF in establishing the World Baseball Softball Confederation which under your leadership has grown into one of the leading sports federations in the world. Don had a special talent for leadership and had courage, he was a family man, being married for 71 years and so our heart really goes out to his lifelong partner Jean.

Don played an instrumental part of the development of GAISF but also in muaythai, for which he helped and guided us to become a GAISF member. He visited us in Bangkok for events and meetings and the IFMA family is saddened by the passing. We honour his life and the opportunities he has given to our own youth.

On behalf of the IFMA family, we say farewell and thank you to a true man in sport and human being rest in peace Don Porter.
