Jake Purdy Gives His Thoughts on Upcoming European Title Bout
Jake Purdy is a man who needs no introduction in the muaythai world. A well-respected fighter from the UK, Jake fights out of Free Style Combat in Exeter under the tutelage of trainer Sonny Perez. The WMC Sport Director Andrew Scott got time this week to talk to Jake about his upcoming European title bout against Timothée Venderouc.
AS: What does it mean to compete for this title?
JP: To fight for the WMC belt is a massive honour, it’s been a long term dream of mine to fight for the best belts in the world so to fight for the WMC really is an opportunity of a lifetime for me and I intend to grasp it with both hands.
AS: How do you feel facing Timothe as an opponent for this title?
JP: I’m really looking forward to fighting Timothe, he is a well-known fighter in France so I’m looking forward to testing my abilities against a high-level fighter, I am no doubt confident of victory and am looking forward to putting a show on in France.
AS: How will you prepare for the bout?
JP: I won’t leave any stones unturned for the fight, I will be having my camp in my home of Exeter with my coach Sonny Perez, we will be in the gym twice a day every day, I have an amazing strength and conditioning coach who is very experienced and I will have a dietician to help me with my diet, it’s a massive opportunity so I am going to give the camp 1000% effort.
AS: Who has been your toughest opponent so far to date and why?
JP: My toughest opponent would have to be Youseff Boughanem, he is one of the most decorated fighters currently active, I had a lot of personal problems and had some very bad news the day of the fight and didn’t perform half as well as I know I can, I’d like another crack at him someday to be honest!!
AS: Will you be aiming to get your hands on the WMC world title in the future if you take the win on this fight?
JP: If I take the win in this fight I would love to challenge for the world, it will be on my hit list 100%

Jake fights Timothée Venderouc on the 7th March in Nice, France for the 72.5kg Middleweight European title.
