Mexico is on Fire at Open Fire Sports Tournament in Tlaxacala!

The Mexican Muaythai Federation under the leadership of Oscar Pérez Gutiérrez, held their first Open Tournament since the pandemic began in Ocotlan, Tlaxacala this past weekend on August 7th. This tournament was a follow-up event for the athletes that took part in the Federation’s Training Camp and 2021 Try-outs just over one week ago. Two hundred and twenty athletes in both junior and senior divisions participated in this kick-off event that unfolded without any setback and included all necessary sanitary measures for a safe experience for all attendees.

Like most countries, Mexican Muaythai has been at a standstill for almost 2 years with the onset of the pandemic and subsequent restrictions. Given that restrictions have eased, the Mexican Muaythai Federation is in full force with a line-up of exciting upcoming events to make up for lost time to get the Mexican national team prepared and ready for the upcoming IFMA Virtual Championships and IFMA World Championships.

At the inauguration ceremony, the President of the Mexican Muaythai Federation, Oscar Pérez Gutiérrez, the holder of the Tlaxcala Sports Institute, Alfredo Lemus Saldaña, the President of Muaythai State Association, Manuel Conde Gutiérez, and Special guest, Paralympic medalist in Sydney 2000, Moses Beristain attended. Congratulations to all the Mexican athletes who competed!

Next stop the Mexican State Selectors, Virtual Championship Selectors and the Mexican National Championship 2021!
