Thailand Bids for the Youth Olympics 2026

Over the last year many important meetings took place between the International Olympic Committee, the Royal Thai Government and the National Olympic Committee of Thailand with regards to major upcoming sporting events.

Thailand’s Prime Minister His Excellency Prayut Chan O Cha met the IOC President Thomas Bach to discuss the possibility of Thailand bidding for the Youth Olympics 2026 and also many other points were discussed. The inclusion of muaythai in the Olympics was also one of the talking points in which the IOC President clearly outlined that IFMA is the sole governing body recognised by the International Olympic Committee.

A large Thai delegation led by Thailand’s IOC member Khun Ying Patama Leeswadtrakul, Thailand’s Sports Minister Khun Phipat Ratchakitprakarn and the Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand Khun Kongsak Yodmanee travelled to the IOC headquarters to meet the IOC President and start the official bidding process.

The delegation also had the chance to visit the GAISF and SportAccord headquarters in Lausanne and the IFMA international office located in the same building. A token of appreciation was given to Thailand by SportAccord and GAISF President Rafaele Chiulli and GAISF Vice President Stephan Fox.

An important meeting took place this week chaired by the Thailand Olympic Committee President and Deputy Prime Minister Prawit who met with the IOC President earlier to discuss the next step forward in this historical bid for the Kingdom of Thailand.
